Norfolk & Suffolk Cup Quarter Final
Haverhill faced a tough game against Ipswich in this quarter final of the Norfolk & Suffolk Cup as Ipswich play two leagues above Haverhill and have yet to be beaten this season with a squad that includes 4 players who began their footballing career at Haverhill.
The first half saw Rovers match Ipswich for play and the first 10 mins saw Haverhill pressure Ipswich.
With 12 minutess played Ipswich scored the opener, the ball just trickling under the Haverhill goalie's body, but Haverhill replied 5 minutes later when Louise Anderson spotted the 'keeper on her 18 yard line and lobbed her from 25 yards.
Haverhill continued to press forward and were unlucky not to take the lead when Rachel Linsdell's cross found Anderson again, but she could not get past the advancing 'keeper who took the ball off her foot. Just before the half time whistle Ipswich regained the lead.
It was to be a game of two halves as Ipswich piled on the pressure in the second period and two quick goals killed Rovers off.
The pace of the game was too much for Haverhill and, although Rovers still pushed for another goal, it was Ipswich's pacey forwards who won the day with 2 more goals before the final whistle.
Rovers should be pleased with this display against higher opposition.
