HAVERHILL ROVERS
3-1
WIVENHOE TOWN

The home side retained their 100% friendly record with this result thanks to goals from Marc Abbott, Tom Shearer and Paul Stokes.

Wivenhoe had a bad turn of fortune after 19 minutes, their goalkeeper going up for the ball with Ben Cowling and falling awkwardly, an injury to his left scapular causing him to leave the game following a 7 minute delay.

His replacement was then left a casual spectator in the 31st minute, a wonder strike by Abbott from 25 yards out with the outside of his right boot seeing the ball curl into the top right corner and past the motionless shot stopper.

Abbott also did his part at the other end near the close of the half when he cleared a Wivenhoe effort off his own goal line.

The away side found an equaliser in the 80th minute when the ball was planted in between goalkeeper Arron Benstead and the near left hand upright but found themselves a goal down again four minutes later, Shearer's free kick from right on the edge of the area and right of centre of goal leaving the goalkeeper with no chance to make a move or a save as it crashed into the roof of the net.

There was still time for another goal, which came on the stroke of 90 minutes, Dan Pilcher's cross from the right pushed away by the 'keeper with Stokes netting from the rebound.
