HAVERHILL ROVERS
2-3
DEREHAM TOWN

Two controversial late decisions took the chance of all three points away from Haverhill as Dereham kept up their hopes of a top five finish in the league.

Haverhill opened the scoring through Jamie Thurlbourne after 5 minutes when he touched the ball past a defender and had a shot on goal from the middle of the edge of the area, the ball taking a wicked deflection off a defender and going into the far bottom right corner past flummoxed goalkeeper Shaun Marshall.

Dereham equalised in the 17th minute when Robert Harris shielded the ball on the edge of the area before putting a short ball forward into the path of Sam Willis who, without breaking his stride, side footed the ball between 'keeper Jamie Smith and the near right post.

The hosts regained their slender lead 3 minutes into first half injury time, Thurlbourne receiving the ball 40 yards out on the left and taking his marker to the bye line before beating him, another defender and then putting a close range effort into the far bottom right corner.

Dereham netted their second equaliser in the 77th minute from a counter attack, Nicholas Howell seeming to be in a offside position but, with no assistant's flag, he carried on before squaring the ball for Scott Gray to score past Smith.

A controversial penalty in the 87th minute then lead to Dereham's victory, home defender Gareth Thomas being adjudged to have pulled a Dereham player back in the penalty area and Harris scoring from the spot kick.
