FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED
4-2
HAVERHILL ROVERS

The hosts' first win in five league matches meant that their opponents ended up with their second loss in seven, despite them pegging back a 2-0 deficit early in the second half.

Danny Phillips gave Felixstowe the lead after 7 minutes after using his pace down the right, goalkeeper Arron Benstead foolishly coming off his line and Phillips lobbing the ball over him before it bounced, struck the inside of the upright and went into the roof of the net.

A Haverhill attack, Louie Farrington's header coming off the back of his own captain Marcus Hunt's head, lead to a counter attack and the hosts' second goal after 36 minutes, Benstead being adjudged to have brought down Phillips in the penalty area as he went away from goal and the striker leaving him no chance with the spot kick.

The score became 2-1 in the 41st minute after home 'keeper Danny Crump fumbled the ball in his area under pressure and tripped Joe Harvey, Hunt converting the spot kick, before Marc Abbott netted the equaliser 95 seconds into the second period after an excellent save by Crump denied Nick Impey.

The home side regained their lead in the 51st minute, however, when a ball into the area was only cleared to the edge of it and captain Gavin Frost thumped the ball into the bottom right corner before Benstead had a chance to move.

Although Haverhill chased the game Felixstowe made sure with a calamitous goal six minutes into added time, Phillips squaring the ball and a mistake by Hunt, followed by another from Benstead, allowed Keith Hetherington to practically walk the ball into the net.

HAVERHILL ROVERS RESERVES
2-1
AFC SUDBURY RESERVES

Two pieces of outstanding finishing put Haverhill through to the last four of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

With only 5 minutes gone on the clock, and supporters still taking their seats, a long ball was headed on by Paul Jenkin on the edge of the Sudbury area and Cody Frazier, in acres of space, calmly lobbed the advancing Sudbury 'keeper to put Rovers a goal up.

Sudbury responded well to falling behind and began to gain the upper hand. With Neil Hammond the only recognized Haverhill centre back in a defensive three lacking height, they pushed Rovers back and goalkeeper Tom Edwards was required to make a couple of sharp saves to keep the lead intact.

It was only as the half neared its completion that Haverhill built any further chances, a fit again Ryan Holder dribbling through the Sudbury midfield and shooting just over; captain Ben Cowling also missed a diving header at the far post with the goal at his mercy.

Manager Peter Betts altered the side at half time, electing to match the 4-4-2 system of his opponents, and this appeared to have secured the victory in the 68th minute when a long flat free kick from Holder reached Jenkin in the penalty area, who volleyed it past the Sudbury keeper with a fine finish.

As tempers began to shorten Sudbury played their last throw of the dice by sending on 18 year old Lee Ifield on the right wing, and his pace stretched a tiring Haverhill defence before he was brought down inside the box by Jamie Challis. Danny Stokes converted the resulting penalty and this led to an exciting finish with 'keeper Edwards again required to make some brave stops before the final whistle sounded.

Rovers will now host a semi-final on March 8th against either Leiston or Hadleigh United.
