HAVERHILL ROVERS RESERVES
2-2
LONG MELFORD RESERVES

An under strength reserve team started well in their final league match of the season and skipper Ben Cowling put the team ahead in the 15th minute with a stooping header from a Phil Hammond cross.

Haverhill looked well on top in the first half, with Stuart Lillie on his debut and Luke Stockings both looking lively up front but, with 5 minutes remaining in the first half, a direct free kick was awarded to Melford and a powerful shot from Clark levelled the game.

Melford started the better in the second half and took the lead in the 55th minute when Hardy broke through the defence and scored past the exposed Tom Edwards.

Manager Pete Betts was forced to bring on some of his first choice players in an attempt to get a result and, after 71 minutes, a Cody Frazier free kick was headed home by Cowling to level the scores.

There was still time for Rovers to snatch a winner and Cowling thought he had the game won on the 86th minute when he found the ball at his feet in the Melford 6 yard box; his first shot was blocked by the Melford 'keeper and, from the rebound, with the goal at his mercy, he rattled the crossbar.

As the whistle was about to be blown for full time Luke Stocking broke through and beat the goalkeeper, but his shot went agonizingly wide to leave the match tied at 2-2.

A good run out for the reserve squad with their two finals this week.
