HAVERHILL ROVERS LADIES
4-3
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY LADIES
(after extra time)

The next round of the F.A. Cup beckons for Haverhill when, despite being 3-1 down with a quarter of an hour to go, they managed to rally back and end up victors after extra time.

They started brightly and, despite not being awarded what seemed to be a clear cut penalty kick due to a foul on Louise Anderson, they took a 1-0 lead when Amanda Everett once again got on the score sheet, her 25 yard effort finding the top corner of the Cambridge net.

A poor clearance with 35 minutes lead to Cambridge equalising and the score being 1-1 at half time.

After the break a Cambridge free kick from 25 yards out was parried by goalkeeper Stacey Spiers, only for travellers to go 2-1 up when the rebound was put into the net, the score becoming 3-1 to the away side when Charlotte Halls was dispossessed and a 20 yard effort was deflected off Zoe Klimke and into the bottom corner.

With 20 minutes to go manager Peter Betts brought on Sian Randall and converted to a 4-3-3 formation. Unfortunately, just 2 minutes after coming on, Randall was taken off with a suspected broken ankle.

Betts kept the formation, however, and a goal came after Everett and Bekki Smith had both hit the upright in separate incidents, Shelley Farr's cross headed into the corner by Katie shorter.

With 3 minutes to go Anderson ran to a long ball and slotted it into the bottom corner to send the game into added time with the score at 3-3.

Everett's 20 yard effort into the top corner would eventually see Haverhill through as 4-3 winners, although they still had time to hit the woodwork once more.

They now face Bedford Town, again at Hamlet Croft, in the third qualifying round on Sunday 8th October 2006. The winners will then progress to the first round proper of the F.A. Cup.

It was also announced by Betts that, along with Katie shorter being selected for Suffolk Ladies' representative side, Shelley Farr had also made the side for Cambridgeshire.
