HAVERHILL ROVERS
1-0
BALDOCK TOWN LETCHWORTH

Although Haverhill continued their pre-season form, and retained the Keith Willis Memorial Cup in its second year, some may look at this game and the trouble that Baldock caused as a sign for the hosts to be wary.

A warning shot fired across the Baldock goal after just 50 seconds when John Winter's volley at the near post went behind off the defender that was guarding the same upright.

What was the only goal of the game came after 21 minutes, Scott Wilby's free kick in the right corner following a needless foul on him giving Marcus Hunt the chance to side foot the ball home from close range amongst a mass of players.

Wilby also curled a free kick just wide of the mark moments later before he kneed a tame header off his own goal line at the post down the other end before he left the field after half an hour with a foot injury.

Haverhill then seemed deflated and happy to sit back, Baldock almost grabbing an equaliser seven minutes from the end when they rattled an effort on to the cross bar.
