HAVERHILL ROVERS YOUTH
0-2
BRANTHAM ATHLETIC YOUTH

(report from Bryan Jones)

The youth team have performed extremely well this season thus far, but this performance was a big disappointment to the players and spectators alike as the visitors took control from the start and didn't let a very out of sorts Haverhill play at all.

There was no spark from any outfield player and, if there was a man of the match, it would have been Rovers stand in 'keeper Doug Beck, who seemed to be the only player 'switched on' on the night.

The visitors made all the running and, although it was all square at half time, they should have been at least three up, hitting the bar and post with good efforts and blazing over on a couple more occasions when scoring looked easier.

Having survived this pressure we had hoped to see a revival of fortunes in the second half but, instead of this, Haverhill looked lethargic and far too casual and two goals in a minute saw the visitors consolidate their superiority.

Haverhill did have a few good moments during the game with a speculative shot from Callum Harrison which the Brantham keeper failed to hold but no one was following up.

A brave diving header by Jack Jones went just inches wide from a Ryan Smithson cross and Matt Taylor hit his strike just over the bar from a Scott Bishop ball into the near post.

This result has now opened up this division and, with all teams beating each other, it promises to be an interestingly tight season.
