The final Uttlesford Charity Cup Final came to close with Stortford showing their class and ending up winners in a competition that raised £723 for the Macmillan Cancer Trust.

Stortford scored the first goal of this well contested game after 20 minutes, a cross from the left by Sam Taylor going all the way through to Jack Midson on the right side of the area, Midson putting the ball back in for Louis Fazackerly to reach back and head the ball in at the near left post despite the efforts of goalkeeper Arron Benstead.

A mistake in the home defence allowed their opponents to double their lead after 32 minutes, Tom Williams eventually making space for himself before despatching a well placed shot past Benstead from eight yards out.

The end of the half belonged to the hosts, however, Martin Westcott putting his effort just wide of goal after a cross by Paul Stokes and away goalkeeper Joe Welch being called upon to save from Adam Salmons and Stokes, all in the last five minutes of the period.

The home side lost defender Gareth Thomas with a left quadricep injury in the 66th minute, Stokes heading just wide near the end of the match before Stortford scored their final goal in the 86th minute, home substitute Sam Green loosely playing the ball across his own area and fellow replacement Lewin Ward taking advantage to power the ball between Benstead and the near right post.
