HADLEIGH UNITED | 1-1 | HAVERHILL ROVERS |
A match played on a slick surface ended with Hadleigh and Haverhill sharing the points, the former playing out their first stalemate since 25th August and the latter extending their run to six matches unbeaten after winning the previous five.
Although the away side had trouble clearing their lines early and found themselves second to most balls they created the early chances, the best of which saw Brad Hickman's 25 yard effort skid off the pitch and cause goalkeeper Arron Benstead to have to dive and palm his shot around the post.
Both goals came in the closing stages of the opening period, Haverhill taking the lead in the 38th minute when Paul Hunt was played in behind right back Chris Sadler by brother Marcus; the ball was then played in with the outside of his boot and Harry Halls ran in unmarked to side foot the ball home.
This was cancelled out on the stroke of half time when Liam Jennings was allowed to come all the way inside from the left wing and his spectacular 35 yard effort curled right before going in the opposite direction, 'keeper Dave Walton being left bamboozled as it found the near top right corner of the net.
The second half was a fairly drab affair with neither side nearly creating chances. Hadleigh almost made the points theirs, however, with a stunning save from Walton preventing Ben Garnham from sliding home a cross from the left at close range.
The hosts were also lucky to end the match with eleven men after Chris Williams could consider himself lucky to be booked two minutes into added time following a cynical foul on Paul Hunt shortly before the final whistle, which was met by a stony silence at the end of a game that was not for the purists.
